To the Grimditch’s, Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your wonderful celebration of your son Kevin becoming a Catholic Priest. The celebration was not only fun, but allowed me to see the true character of Kevin. I witnessed a very humble, very grateful young man, with a tremendous devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Kevin, It was an honor and privilege to meet you, and to witness, and document your first Mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

8 weeks to “Go Time” – June 27, 2014

IMG_6494
Over 100 workers on the job, shooting for the September deadline. This worker is cutting A/C vent piping to  join two sections. I love taking shots that show the sparks flying….

IMG_6481
This is a pallet of cable trays waiting to be hung for all of the category 5 cable to be run throughout the building.

IMG_6454
Miles, and miles of category 5 cable. The runs are being put in, even without the cable trays being in place.

IMG_6381
Auger resting after creating holes for light poles in the parking areas.

IMG_6424
Final prep work to get the north east parking areas ready for asphalt.

IMG_6632
All images shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, EF 24-105 F4 IS L lens. Inside shots lit with the Canon 600EX-RT strobe camera mounted.

Inching Closer – June 19, 2014

IMG_5730
The Main entrance is coming along, the glass is all in, the metal trim is going on, and the facade is getting wrapped to protect the wood from the elements. Inching Closer is probably not a good title, since its really flying along. 10 weeks…….. Lots left to get done.
IMG_5741
This was sitting in the cafe area, and I assume this is a sample of what the balconies will look like.
IMG_5769
Lots of heavy equipment moving dirt. Getting ready for asphalt.
IMG_5773
Lots of dirt getting moved from one area to others.
IMG_5835
One of the server rooms.
IMG_5966
The final version of ladder leading up to the roof.
IMG_5978
Part of “Phase III”?
IMG_6088
Sidewalks were getting poured and finished while I was on site.
IMG_6130
This piece of equipment was compacting the earth over where the drainage pipes were buried. All images shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, EF 24-105 F4 IS L lens, and inside shots were flash filled with the Canon 600EX-RT flash, camera mounted. All images since August 2013 can be seen here.

Getting Closer – June 14th, 2014

IMG_5591
OK, its not quite the staircase that I used to use to get up on the roof, but its still a way for me to get up on the roof. (Have I mentioned that I love going up on the roof to take pictures?)
IMG_5642

Its a little different from the second floor as well…..IMG_5570
This will give you an idea how far away the job trailers and parking are away from the building.IMG_5553
This is from inside the main entrance.
IMG_5690
This is some of the “main” power cabling going into the building.
IMG_5597
Most of the workers seem happy with what they are doing, and almost all will talk to you and “pose” for a quick picture.
IMG_5558
This area is in the kitchen.
IMG_5564
Second story, waiting for a dumpster to be brought into the cafe area and lifted up……
IMG_5719
The main drainage pipes that have been sitting on the job, since before the fencing went up is being put into the ground. As always the photographs are all taken with the Canon 5D Mark II, EF 24-105 F4 IS L glass, and the EF 70-200 F2.8 IS L glass, and some of the inside shots used the Canon Speedlight 600EX-RT fro flash fill. (Thanks Josh!!!) All images shot since August 2013 can be seen here.

11 weeks till Go Time!!! – June 13, 2014

IMG_5489
The job trailers have all moved from the North East corner to the South West corner of the job site.
IMG_5491
I was able to get to the job site early this week, just after sunrise. Yes it was still hot. The workers on the roof tell me they are off the roof by 9 or 10 at the latest.

IMG_5493
Lots of dirt work, getting ready for landscaping, paving/parking lot areas, and what is being referred to as “Phase III”.

IMG_5495
This will be the “main” entrance into the building, leading into a reception area. I imagine this area will look completely different by next week.

IMG_5504
I know you are not supposed to look at someone while they “arc weld”. I didn’t look! At least not for long. Lots of workers on site, and all of them rushing to keep on schedule.

IMG_5524
This will be another entrance. You get a feel for what the main entrance area will look like once the glass is all in.

IMG_5526
This is the wall of Phase II closest to the 101. The painter is exactly where the scaffolding stairs that led to the roof used to be.

IMG_5537
Electricians pulling the main trunk wiring into the building and the main breaker boxes so it can get distributed throughout the building.

IMG_5545
One of the small server rooms with “miles” of cabling going in.

IMG_5548
My buddy Ben pulling wire from one of the main breaker rooms into the rest of the building.

Sago Palm Fronds – June 18, 2013

Sago palm fronds

One of the hotels in California had these beautiful Sago Palms with new fronds just uncurling. This image is good for depth of field, with only part of the image in focus. Canon 5D Mark II,  ISO-100, F4, 69mm, 1/60 second hand held.

Fireball Cupcakes – June 17, 2013

Fireball cupcakes

Jazmin made Fireball Cupcakes for us to eat on fathers day. 2 shots of Fireball went into the batter, and 2 shots went into the frosting. They were yummy. Apple spice like, with extra cinnamon. They got scarffed down.

Its been a while – June 15, 2013

Jeff & Grapes

Jeff had a birthday party for the girls. They wanted a totally 80’s birthday party. I guess they had hawaiian shirts in the 80’s….. and

Totally 80's Angela

neon colors and headbands were popular in the 80’s….. but I’m not so sure that kids were playing with glow sticks in the 80’s….

Glow Sticks

The above is a composite of 3 images of the kids playing with glow necklaces. All images shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, hand held, EF 24-105 F4 IS lens, the glow images ISO-200, F4, at 1/2 second exposure.

Downtown San Diego – June 10, 2013

Downtown San Diego

This shot is right outside the bar where we were drinking shots of Fireball. This is a 5 second exposure to get the cars to blur. I did not have a tripod with me, so I set the camera on a trash can. Canon 5D Mark II, Iso-200, F11, 28mm, 5 seconds.

Ocean Beach Pier, San Diego – June 9, 2013

Ocean Beach Pier

Shot in June 2012, the dreamy quality of this image is from the long, 15 seconds, exposure. Canon 5D Mark II, ISO-50, 17mm, F22, 15 seconds – lens had 2 ND filters mounted to knock down the light to get the waves in motion, or to capture the blur from the in and out motion of the waves.

Fireball – June 8, 2013

Fireball Shot

Fireball Cinnamon Whisky. If you like “red hots” this could be very dangerous! Shot with the Canon 5D Mark II, ISO-100, 17-40 F4 L glass at 40mm, F4, 1/160 sec. Shot in San Diego June 2012.

TWENTY FIVE WONDERFUL YEARS – June 6, 2013

Jim&Sheri 1988 02

WOW! God has truely blessed me with a wonderful wife, helper, lover, mate, and companion. I could not ask for more in a soul mate, than what God has brought into my life. She has grown even more beautiful each of the 25 years we’ve been together. She truely is a keeper!!

Jim&Sheri 1988 01

We had both been married before……  we had been planning to go on a cruise together ….. the original plan was to ask Sheri to marry me while we were on the cruise, I had it all planned out, and was sure it would be very romantic …. but wait …. plans changed, and I asked her to elope with me, and get married on board the SS Asure Seas by the captain out at sea, I had it all planned out, and was sure it would be very romantic …. but wait …. plans changed, do you know that does not really happen, you get married in port, by a pastor, not the captain. You see I had it all planned out, and was sure it would be very romantic ….

Jim&Sheri 1988 06

The Chaplin, my Beautiful Bride, myself, and 7 guests…. L to R : Tom Messner Sr., Rosalie Messner, Steve Wagner, Jessica Pattison, Joey, Sarah Pattison, and Jim Seaman, … Together we had it was all planned out, and was  VERY ROMANTIC!

Jim&Sheri 1988 05

Looking back, we should have sprung for a photographer ……….

Jim&Sheri 1988 03

Pages scanned into the computer from our wedding albumn, scrapbook. We have the tickets to Disneyland from the weekend before the cruise,(adults $19.25, child $14.75), the reciepts from The Cheesecake Factory, reciepts from the LA county courthouse from where we got the license,($35.00 + $15.00 to park downtown LA for 2-3 hours),  and lots of memorabilia from our honeymoon cruise.   We had it all planned out, and was  VERY ROMANTIC! * note: with the exception of the sea sickness…. but I wont mention that.

Jim&Sheri 1988 04

The “professional” images were shot by a close friend and published author Chuck Lewis, (When Good Men Ride) after we returned from our honeymoon.

Oceanside Pier – June 5, 2013

Oceanside Pier 2 Oceanside Pier

Two images of the Oceanside Pier. Enough said.

Dog on a Wall – June 4, 2013

Dog on a wall

OK, I admit that I did photoshop out the couple that was walking their dog. The dog is up on a wall thats 5 feet or so up, but is 16-18 inches wide. The only thing you could see of the couple from where I was standing on the beach was their heads, underneath the dogs belly. This makes for a much more interesting photo. Canon 5D Mark II, ISO-100, F8, 105mm, at 1/160 sec.

Wall Mural – June 3, 2013

Painted Tigers

Painted by Michael Summers, this is a wall of a building in Carlsbad. I love it! Its sponsered by New Village Arts, and the Matt McLauglin Fund at the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation. More work can be seen at ECGallery.com.

Happy Birthday Sheri Lynn – June 2, 2013

Sheri Lynn

This picture is from last years San Diego trip. You’re not getting older, you’re getting better. I Love You!!!

Carlsbad Beach – June 1, 2013

Girls on the beach+1

Girls on the beach

This is all of the girls who came on this trip. I added Maddie in the top frame, as she would not sit with Jen for her picture. We were at the beach for 4-5 hours, and My wife burned her calves really bad. Nothing else, but her calves. Wierd.
